      Other PC kicking me off?

      Dear All,

I have the normal sky router etc.
When I connect with my pc, all is fine etc.
But when my g/f starts her lap top up and logs on to the wireless router, my connection near enough falls over. Web pages go from 1/2 a second to load to 5 mins.
      Any ideas?

You may want to check what is running on the laptop in the background. Does the same happen if the girlfriends PC is connect by ethernet to the router?

Re: Other PC kicking me off?

That's funny I had this when my wifes PC was connected to my dg834gt (wired). As soon as she switched the PC on and went online My connection died. I had 4 PC connected in total but her's was the only one to kill my connection. We all had static IP's and I never found out what the problem was. I only managed to solve it by plugging a switch into the router and connecting her through that and No I didn't change any setting on any of the PC's.

Re: Other PC kicking me off?

Are you also using wireless? If you are, her adapter may be sucking up all the bandwidth and leaving nothing for you. This seems to be a common complaint in student flats where one user has a more powerful/efficient adapter than other users and steals all the bandwidth.

Although she has AV does not mean that there is no malware on her machine. Try opening a Command Prompt on it and type-
netstat -a This will show all the connections being made by the PC
netstat -b This will show the .EXE responsible for each connection, which can be useful in recognising intruders.
