i have been with sky broadband for 2 months, when i first connected it was at 2525kbps then it went up to 2784
but just lately the seed has been all over the place, after spending a hour on phone to t2 yesterday was told i should cancel my broadband as sky cannot give me a relible service due to my line, spoke to cancelations dept, can cancel broadband ok
but when we joined sky i had to subscribe as we had freesat before
the only reason i subscibed was to get sky broadband,we were quite happy with freesat
do you know if sky will let me cancel sky tv as i cannot afford to pay sky for tv and another isp for broadband,i had a fixed 2meg service from aol,but sky dont a fixed speed service t2 told me better off going to bt
i know my attenuation is high but no problems on fixed 2meg with aol

Many people [including myself] fell into Sky's broadband trap!

They lure people with cheap TV+BB service and in many cases provide a not-fit-for-purpose broadband! When you compare Sky's TV + another ISP's broadband, the price does not look attractive!

Usually you can't cancel TV as you're in one year contract. However, you may try canceling direct debit and let's see what happens.

Re: will sky let me out of tv contract

Can't advise cancelling your DD - You may think that you are in the driving seat if you haven't paid but Credit Control will quickly pass you onto a debt collection agency who will rack up their own fees which you will have to pay on top of what you already owe. Much better to keep on at Customer services as it isn't in their interest to have a customer default - Very time consuming for them. They may well come to some arrangement with you.

The issue for them is though that the Sky box they have supplied has been heavily subsidised on the basis that you were likely to be a paying customer for a while. If you paid 49 for a box for example, it will have cost Sky considerably more than that. In these circumstances you can imagine they will not be too happy to let you out of the contract after 2 months even though you might see it as their fault anyway.

If you don't get any joy out of customer support, my advice would be to keep going with Broadband Support until you can get it stable enough to live with until your 12 months is up. You should also look at this forum for advice on improving your internal wiring and you should post your full stats both when connected to the test socket and otherwise. Looking at the stats you have posted already I'd have thought it should be possible to get a stable capped 2MB connection unless you ahve already tried everything. Not what you want to hear I know but practical advice.

Very interested in the fact they let you do this, I wonder if this option is open to others at T2's advice that they can't provide the service?

You say you were on Freesat before Sky. Freesat is a very new service, so I'm curious as to how long you've actually been with Sky? The reason I ask is because as with any credit agreement, if you've been with Sky for 14 days or less then you can cancel the contract and walk away from them without any problems. The fact that they've allowed you to cancel the broadband as you state above makes me wonder if you're still in this period?

Are you in a cable area? You can check here. If you are then consider cancelling your BT phoneline and take a look at a bundle pack with Virgin to get their phone service and broadband together. That will work out about the same as what you are paying for the BT service now and give you broadband with it (they are only cheap if you take phone and broadband together, if you take broadband only then they are expensive).

If none of the above helps I guess it's back to the drawing board

Still NO solution from Sky! Still not fixed!

you're not talking to the right person then...those stats couls easily achieve 2Mbps so Base should be easy, or even capping to 2Mbps and staying on Mid for the download limit is feasible

Yep go back to Tier 1, ask if your ticket is still open, if its not then tell them your line is unstable and prepare to TS, once its done you will go to cst again and while there ask to be capped at 2mb.

Re: will sky let me out of tv contract

cst told me they cannot offer a fixed 2meg as i had with aol
i know they could cap it at 2meg but that wouldnt be fixed
when i was aol i had the same speed every day
i did not matter how many times i rebooted the router it allways came back the same
with sky if i have to reboot it can sync at anything between 120 and 2000kbps
have to spend hours then unpluging or rebooting to get the speed back up
