      Have Sky changed technology?

      Hi,
As part of the profiling was there any plans to change the ADSL technology being used for broadband.
I am on the upto 8mbps and my line was capped at 2mbps, had it removed but then it was put back on. So I left it. Came on this morning, as normal went into the router to check the logs for something when I noticed a higher sync speed. Looked at the stat's, upstream attenuation was up and so was the noise margin. Went into telnet and looked at some of the stats it was giving. It turns out that Sky have taken me of G.DMT and now on ADSL2, and the cap is set to 8mbps, which is great. They have put me on fastpath, which may cause a problem, as errors were fairly high on my line, but I am monitoring the situation.

So does anyone know if they are upgrading lines?

could you post your detailed stats (sometimes with the V1 router, it did show fastpath, but was a glitch)

Taking a second look, Interleaving is on but at a depth of 16bit rather then my normal full interleaving at 64bit.
There are some errors on the line, but no problems with stability or drop-outs but just re-synced it. Will be downloading soon, to see if there are any problems.
Gaming is greatly improved though with the lower ping the the reduced interleaving.

you're not on fast, but you are on ADSL2+...maybe this is the DLM going through it's first trials...

What are your pings like to bbc through the command prompt? And is it stable that you're on ADSL2+ with 54 attenuation!?

      Ok pings. (24/05/08)

Amazing as it sounds, Yes 'I Have a stable connection at 54db attenuation'. Pings are around 40ms for google and 40-50ms for servers within Europe.

40 to google is excellent! I might try and get put onto ADSL2+. But maybe they will start to test and upgrade lines soon, who knows. Either way, lucky you, with your low pings, enjoy the low lag gaming experience!

      Ok pings. (24/05/08)

      Re: Have Sky changed technology?

Yours is an interesting line to pick, if that is what is going on. 54db is the point where, all things being equal, the speeds between ADSL and ADSL2+ converge, at around 4Mb/s so they could be monitoring for errors. I suspect that if you start to get drop outs your line would revert back to ADSL.

my belief is it's a random quota - no specific lines just a broad sample...
