      Re: Have Sky changed technology?

Just read these posts and decided to check my router stats.

I am on max but was capped at 3072Kbps because of line atten. of around 57/58db

      Noted the following changes

      Channel now :FAST (previously INTR)
Upstream rate now: 412 Kbps (Previously 768kbps)
      Downstream rate now:3071Kbps ( Previously 3072Kbps)
      Mode now :ADSL2 (previously G.DMT)
Trellis now : U:ON/D:ON (Previously ON)
      SNR Now : Down 8.19(Previously around 7): Up 13.5 ( Previously around 12)
      Line Att Now : Down 58.5 ( previously 57/58):Up 38.9 ( Previously around 31.5)

Obviously I realise my SNR will vary depending on when the reading is taken

My connection as been rock solid since the new firmware (Netgear DG 834 GT), I hope after these changes it still remains rock solid

      Any comments?

      Re: Have Sky changed technology?

Well, they have changed the mode in which your router connects to. You have actually seen an increase in speed, because it looks like they have reduced the interleaving, I found with my line that the higher the interleaving the higher the sync I would get.

As for a cap on your line, well that is not really going to be substantial, when they changed my line they removed the cap so I would assume that they did the same with your line. I checked a friend who is also with Sky and the same changes have been made to his line. The only link I can find so far is that we all have a fairly high attenuation, with mine being at 54 and his being at 58, similar to tomhill1942's. Maybe they are testing the effects that the ADSL will have on lines who are prone to more errors because of the high attenuation?

I have seen a decrease in upstream as well, but only by 4kbps, from a fixed 416kbps for the last two years. Also seen an increase in the upstream attenuation, but that comes with an noticeable change in the upstream SNR from 12 to 20db.

I have had a whole day sync well since 2am, when it appears the the line was forced to re-sync and the changes were made. I was actually expecting problems because from what I believe ADSL2 is a lot less fault tolerant then G.DMT was and I had problems with line error in that mode, but it all seems to be going well.

Thumbs up Re: Have Sky changed technology?

My connection speed has gone up.

It was at 8Mb and now it has gone upto 10mb which was a nice surprise when i looked at the stats page.

My line has an Attenuation of 40db, is this new sync speed the kind of speed i should get.

      Speed test displayed below.
