want to keep my old e-mail address and Outlook Express

Hi, I have just got up and running with Sky broadband. I was previously using Virgin. I have a virgin.net e-mail account which I can still access via the web and send and receive e-mails on. However when I try to acess it in Outlook Express I can receive but not send e-mails. I have spent all afternoon talking to Sky (no help) and googling for answers.
Sky told me I had to change my outgoing service to smtp.tools.sky.com which I have done. I have also changed my outgoing server port number to 465. I have not touched anything to do with incoming mail since that is still working.
I have read various threads from different websites and it seems to be a common problem sending e-mail from a non Sky e-mail address but following the threads through I've never foudn the answer.
Can anyone tell me, is it possible to continue using my old e-mail address on Outlook Express using Sky Broadband? and if so, do you have any idea how on earth I achieve this?
      Many thanks,
      Eileen

Sky Email and Portal Log-in - Sky User - The unofficial support forum for everything Sky!

you should find all your answers there. if you still have a problem, then post back in this thread with the specifics of where the problem is etc

Re: want to keep my old e-mail address and Outlook Express

Hi, many thanks for the link. I read through it all and the only thing I found was that I needed to put @sky.com at the end of my user name. Hey presto and I sent my first mail. I am now testing it on some friends.
Having read the links though it does seem in the hands of the Gods if your outgoing mail goes through or not (i.e. treated as spam). I am wondering now if I should just buy my own domain name. Well at least I can e-mail everyone to advise them of my change in e-mail address first!
many thanks again for your help, fingers crossed x
