Is anyone else experiencing really slow download speeds, I normally download at 350kbps + but today I haven't got above 90kbps, would there be any reason for this?

      Re: download speeds

Are you still using wireless? If so try it over a wired connection. It is possible a near neighbour has just fired up a new wireless connection and it is effecting you. If this is the case, you may have to try another channel on the router.

Try a wired speedtest here -

      Re: download speeds

Yeah I'm still using wireless. I changed the channel on my router and still no quicker than 90kbps. I tried a wired connection and it offers no speed imprivement what so ever.

I have had Sky BB for a little over a week, and I have downloaded a few large files but nowhere near the 40gb download limit, so I know I haven't been capped (or at least I shouldn't have been)

      Re: download speeds

I've started a similar thread - I'm having the same problem. Getting download speeds of about 100kbps, no obvious reason as to why. Normally get about 4600kbps. Maybe its a problem with Sky...?

Ryukai - if you are on the connect package then your problem will not be the same (connect is a rebranded BT package)

      @von smittle

Could you post a new set of stats, preferebly wired with the router connected to the Master socket, or Test socket if you have one. Your line may have degraded due to a fault.

If you have not already done so and are running XP or less, it will be worthwhile running either TCPOptimiser or DrTCP. Either of these will ensure your PC settings are correct. Links below.

      Re: download speeds

These are the stats from the modem running on a wireless connection from the socket in the lving room:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4896 kbps 384 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.0 db 24.5 db
Noise Margin 9.0 db 13.0 db

Then these stats are from the modem via wireless in the test socket

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6976 kbps 384 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.0 db 24.5 db
Noise Margin 7.6 db 14.0 db

Yet when I try to download a file with modem in test socket it still goes no faster than 100kbps, just what is going on.....

EDIT: Just tested modem with wired connection to laptop and download speeds where hovering around 296-300kbps (which i guess at peak times) is quiet good. Looks like for downloading stuff I will need to go the wired route.

      Re: download speeds

You are loosing a third of your connection speed due to your extension and it shows the download speed fault is with your PC. Run the utilities I recommended above, you will see a difference.

EDIT With your connection speed you should be able to download at over 700KBps, double what you are getting. It just requires a bit of work and you will get there

      Re: download speeds

Thank you so much, I followed the TCPoptimizer link and just sliding the bar to 7000kb it moved my download speed to 490-510kbps. Which is a) a vast improvement and b) i'd assume is good for being at peak time.

      Thanks a million!!!

      Re: download speeds

You should really have used 8000 as that is the advertised speed for your line, might get you another few Ks, but it's good that you are happy
