      Just switched from NTL

Hi, first post, so please be gentile with me

I've opted to give Sky a go as I was fed up of NTL ripping me off 25 a month for a 4MB service. Yes I know that Virgin are offering a free upgrade to 10MB for its existing 4MB customers, but that is still un-competitive compared to a lot of other ISP's, inc Sky. Anyway I 've just taken delivery of my Sky router and now waiting for activation which should be 5th June. I've been sent a Sagem router, and it certainly looks a nice bit of kit, and I like the fact that it has no antenna sticking out of the back like my current D-link router.

I've been reading up post on this forum, regarding faceplates etc, and being 341 meters from the exchange, I'm hoping to get close to the 16MB speed of the max package ordered, and i'm sure with the help of the guys here that is possible.

I have one question that I can't find the answer to. How do you set the time and date on the router. I have logged in using the admin / sky setting and can't see any option to do so.

Anyway, once connected I'll post up my speeds etc and look forward to fast stable connections with Sky

      Malcolm

      Welcome to the forum

cant help with your router question, but did want to just say about filters, you will need to have one of the sky filters attached to any telephone sockets that are used (you may well know this, but there have been a few converts from VM who did not know about this when coming over to the dark side )

Thank for the reply, yes I know about the filters, and have added one to the only other socket on the line (for the sky box). I'm thinking of fitting one of theose filtered faceplates, assuming that any speed performance issues arrise, but as I won't know until its activated I'll just holf fire on that for a mo.

I'm glad I found this forum though... spent ages trawling the "official" sky site for help on settig up outlook 2007 to receive e-mail, and it never worked.. followed the tutorial here and it worked first time - seem the "official" site must be lacking something (possibly the secure settings) which stopped me login in ? - anyway, thanks to this site that was one issue easily resolved

at 341 meters from exchange you should get a pretty good speed
i live about 1km from exchange and get 13-14 mb constant
sync 16mb using netgear black router
hope all goes well on 5th june and welcome to sky user forum and sky broadband

      Re: Just switched from NTL

Re Time and date: Assuming the Sagem router is the same as the Netgear one in this respect, Time and date is set automatically by referring to an NTP server at Sky. You can use a custome NTP server if you prefer but still no option to set manually.
