You will need to post your router stats, advise on if wired or wireless and also where you plug your router in (extention / mater socket / test socket)
also worth checking you have filters on all items connected to your phone sockets

Re: Why is my BB so slow?

oh nevermind, it seems that my line has 41 db attenuation so I guess ~700kbps is my max speed anyway.

It is odd though, as I live so close to the exchange.

I was also wondering, if I never call customer support, what is the likelyhood of them finding out I use a different router, if I were to use a different one? ( i was thinking of a WRT54GL with dd-wrt)

if there is no need for them to find out now, why would there be in the future?
also, if someone had enough technical prowess to extract the password and change the router, surely they would not need tech support, thus rendering sky's rational behind forcing this router on us void?

Re: Why is my BB so slow?

no time to get into this argument again - a million threads already about it...

regarding use of own router, Sky don't 'allow' it as in future they'll prob be offering VoD services etc and if the router is pre-configured it's easy to roll out...

also, Sky only support the router - if you use your own and there's a line fault you're pretty much screwed as Sky will just say 'bye' and might terminate service due to breach of T&Cs...at the moment though, they don't check but maybe in future they will...

it's basically your call - use it and risk it really...if the Sky one works then what difference does it make?

I stream media all over my house, so the power options given by dd-wrt are desirable to me.

Re: Why is my BB so slow?

fair enough - you could always use the other router as a wireless gateway - thus leaving you within T&C's and yet using a better wireless gateway...just a suggestion

Re: Why is my BB so slow?

James67 posted how to do this , but I cannot remember where!
In a nutshell, you reduce the DHCP address pool of the sky router by one address, use this address for the access point and disable it's DHCP server.
