Smile What time of day does migration switchover occur? Or "usually" occur?

      Hi all!

I realise this is a very silly question but please bear with me. I'm switching from AOL to Sky tomorrow and would like to know if there is a "usual" timeframe for the service migration to occur.

I ask this because I need to download lots of large files for work throughout the day, and would like to try to avoid being "cut off" even for a few minutes when the switchover takes place.

I know Sky say it can happen "anytime up till midnight", but is it truly an automated process which can be done 24/7 or does an engineer have to physically switch you over, in which case maybe a 9-5 timeframe would be more likely?

Even if people say what time of day their migrations happened on would be great.

      Thanks!

Re: What time of day does migration switchover occur? Or "usually" occur?

I don't know if there is a specific time but I have migrated to Sky twice!

Firstly, when I got Sky Broadband at my old house. That happened at approximately midday. I was without any broadband (or a working phone line) for about an hour as I moved from Pipex to Sky.

Then, when I moved house about two months ago. I moved to a house which hadn't had broadband running there before. That happened earlier in the day at about 9am.

I'm guessing that there isn't a specific time of day that it happens, even the amount of downtime you might experience. I believe that it's up to the BT guys at your local exchange when they do it. They will presumably have a list of numbers they need to enable/disable to/from an ADSL connection. While the process at the exchange may be automatic, they will decide what time it is best to do it.

As above there is no specified time, it can occur anytime during the day up midnight. All you can do is put the router onto the line and wait for it to synch, don't waste money calling Sky tech support about it until you receive a voice mail from BT saying its done and you have reached the end of your activate date as there is very little they can do.

I never received any call saying that my migration was done, and it was done at 4.15 in the morning so it does happen at anything of the day.

Thumbs up Re: What time of day does migration switchover occur? Or "usually" occur?

I joined Sky Broadband last month. The first indication was tinkering with the phone line about 08:30. The router went live shortly afterwards. The voicemail message arrived much later. All very painless and on the correct day, despite sending me a message beforehand saying that because of high demand it might not happen on schedule. I was quite impressed!

We got our voicemail about 2 days later, all depends on how busy the BT boys are etc.

If you do ever have any problems with your broadband and need to phone support, do not state that you need it for work, sky bb is for domestic use only and you will get no "extra" help with it.

Thanks, everyone! It went live at ~ 4pm after 15 minutes of a dead phone line.

It's still stabilizing at the moment, but sittng around 10Mb whereas before I got 2Mb. So quite pleased!
