Re: Unable to access rapidshare again!!!!!

I dont know about the level3 stuff but what I do know the following contribute to the problems on rapidshare.

      (a) when the IWF lists a child porn link, the easynet IWF proxy server then blocks every website that shares the same ip address as the blocked url, this is wrong and they should only block the direct url. This is why false positives are so common on sky/easynet/ukonline because they block everything on the same ip.
      (b) Rapidshare ignore the x-forwarded-for header which means they see the proxy ip as the user's ip instead of the real ip which can lead to situations where rapidshare block user's for excessive connections from a single ip address.

Generating fake error 500's is just plain wrong, if you (sky) filtering the internet then have the decency to put up a holder page saying "this page has been blocked due to our iwf filter, if you believe this to be in error then contact the filter admin team here." Instead we get a fake page which misleads the customer on the problem.

that's pointing to a 2 and a half year old thread - not worth noting

Thanks, however it's a current problem, so perhaps it is worth noting.

not as it's been discussed and found to be an issue with Sky peering with Level3 as opposed to IP filtering - it's just adding confusion...

iwasnottheenemy to be fair I think the level3 is an excuse put out to mislead people.

a peering issue does not generate fake error 500's.

Re: Unable to access rapidshare again!!!!!

Hmmm... Peering would not cause issues with NAT which is what I'm getting. I'm also not getting 500's.

The IP Rapidshare & others are seeing is in a completely different subnet and a WHOIS on the IP shows the same servername as in that thread. (Easynet-BL-Filter)

A quick check on my external IP shows my correct IP in the 90.212.11.0/24 subnet. However, when attempting to download from Rapidshare et al, the IP is shown as 12.134.155.211

So, it would appear that traffic is being routed to a proxy or other NAT device.

So, any ideas? (I'll happily start another thread if needed).
