      Intermittent Website Access

I run a website that is intermittently not available via Sky Broadband, Sky say it's nothing to do with them and will not help as all other sites are OK.

I have a friend on AOL that says it's OK, plus web based validators (like w3c html & rss validator) access the site fine when it's not accessible on my computer, with a server not responding message.

If I run a trace route online it makes the server, but a local one fails to make the final hop.

I am lost as to what the issue is here, anyone got any ideas?

Site is http://co2sceptics.com or the host http://host1x.com - both on the same server, and they are not available at the same times.

I have emailled my host, as it is possible a transparent proxy is masking the downtime from AOL and the online validators, I await their reply.

      Re: Intermittent Website Access

I was using OpenDNS, reverted to Sky because of this, no different.

Just gone down again this second 15:37.

      Re: Intermittent Website Access

Just tried this webserver test site, and shows OK for all 3 locations.

      Free Website Test

Yet still not accessible by Sky, really makes me think DNS issues too but even access via the IP fails.

      Re: Intermittent Website Access

Interestingly the last 2 times the site became not available I rebooted my router and it came back with the site working, this is not conclusive of course but looks very odd if a certain IP is intermittently being blocked by the router.

An additional note that when the site 'goes down' on sky it affects http, ftp and POP3 for the site.

      Re: Intermittent Website Access

This is a real pain, I am technically minded but have no idea what could cause this.

As far as I can tell the site is fine when I get server not responding messages, I have tried on more than one computer... Only constant is Sky Broadband and their router.

      Re: Intermittent Website Access

Just happened again, router reboot fixed...

This is not affecting any other website/server as far as I know.
