Trying to use a Belkin N1 wireless Router

When I go through the setup program to use a Belkin N1 wireless Router with my Sky broadband I'm prompted to key in my Username + Password.

I've tried using the skybroadband username and password and then the SSID name and Network Key but neither work.

Does anyone know what I should input.

I've attached a screen grab of the 'not accepted screen'.

      Any help appreciated.

Re: Trying to use a Belkin N1 wireless Router

you need to extract your username and password from the Sky supplied router.

sky dont tell you what these are by default as they break the T&Cs of your contract as you have signed up to only use their router.

There are sticky's in theses forums detailing how to extract your username if you choose to break your contract with sky and use your own router.

the details you are using are the WIRELESS WPA settings that are embedded into the sky router and are what you need to put into a laptop/pc if connecting to the SKY router wirelessly.

Re: Trying to use a Belkin N1 wireless Router

Let me know how you get on using a non-Sky router with the service.

So far I've had 2 of their routers and they've both failed me by being faulty. I've got router number 3 in the post to me as I type, but if that fails I'll consider your route of action, ie trying my own router.

Be interested to see if they have anything blocking this sort of thing such as checking out MAC addresses or a firmware check etc.

Interesting... I think a trip to my local computer store may be in order to see if I can get a router that actually works!

Re: Trying to use a Belkin N1 wireless Router

I use a different router than the one sky provided. Mainly because it offers me a lot more features than the sky one (QoS for VPN, VoIP etc) and I have had 0 problems with it.

I still have the sky router so if I do have problems I can just re-connect it to check and then raise a support call if needed using the sky router to aid in fault finding.

Personally I would have liked the option to use my own router and stay within the T&C's even if I will get no support while using it but I can also understand the reason that Sky have put the entry in the T&C's as it makes diagnostics easier for them when problems happen.

If this image is not here, my net connection has gone down.. Please hit it with a hammer

^ unless the fault is caused by the non-Sky router...
