      Just requested a new modem...

      Hi,
Ive just phoned sky support up because my DG834GT modem has broke, and they have told me that I will recieve a new modem in 3-5 days. My question is will I recieve another DG834GT modem, or will I get the new sky modem?
      Thanks

Re: Just requested a new modem...

You can have an affect on which router you get.

I was initially supplied with the white Netgear router. That had problems, so Sky sent me out a new black Netgear router. That has problems too, so when I called back I was told that they'd send me a new Sagem router instead.

Apparently the Netgear routers, both the old white and the new black, have a possible issue with their firmware that can cause wireless signal loss and this problem apparently doesn't exist in the Sagem. This was what I was told the other night when on the phone to the top tier support at Sky who arranged for a new router for me.

I'll let you know if the problem's solved when it gets here this week.

There's no real way to be sure of getting a specific model, if it's within warranty you're more likely to be getting a refurbished one, outside warranty they get dispatched as new as far as I'm aware.
"Is your router definately plugged into the master telephone socket, sir?"
"YES! SO WHY CAN'T I DO MY WIRELESS?"
"How far away from the router are you?"
      "I'M IN SPAIN"

I was sent another router outside of warranty, it was just a refurbished DG834GT. It wasnt even packed properly, all it came with was a power adaptor and lots of room in the box for it to be shaken about in in transit.

I'd really like to know where they get the refurbished routers from, they don't ask for the old ones to be sent back so they must have a warehouse somewhere with old scebby routers being fixed up and sent out to keep up with the CST motto: If in doubt, send one out.
