      Why is it so sloooooooooooooow?

      Hi,

I'm using Sky Broadband. I'm meant to be getting the 8Mb service. I realise that the speed you get depends on the conditions such as distance from exchange and other affecting factors, but my connection seems almost as slow as a dial up connection, anyone got any ideas why this is?

      My stats are

      Download speed 424kb/s
      Upload speed 52kb/s

Line Attenuation Down 36 db Up 10 db
Noise Margin Down 18 db Up 7 db

It's getting very frustrating to click on a link and have to wait about 4 or 5 seconds before it loads. Even basic pages are taking a long time to load and services like Youtube are unusable as the video keeps stopping every few seconds.

Any ideas? Is there anything I can do?

Can you post your router stats connected without ant extentions from the test socket behind the master socket.

can you also confirm that you have micro filters connected to each telephone socket including your sky box.

Going by your Noise Margin it appears you have been capped. This is usually due to noise on the line so your first step should be to plug into the Test socket, behind the Master socket faceplate, and check your stats from there. If you are capped and it looks like you are, your speed will not increase but if you see another rise in the Noise Margin this means you have problems with your internal wiring. If there is a difference, you will have to sort out your internal set up. There are many tips and ideas in the http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/cabling-faceplate-help/ part of the forum which will help you do this. When you have fixed up your wiring, phone Sky and ask them to remove the cap on your line. You could possibly do that now, but if your wiring is faulty, your line will not be stable.

Your attenuation is the same as mine, so you could sync at over 8000mbps, with a corresponding download speed.
