    why big change in snr and attenuatin

    This is a discussion on why big change in snr and attenuatin within the Sky Broadband help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; with my old isp my router stats where snr 13 and attenuation of 50 with sky they are as below ...

      why big change in snr and attenuatin

      with my old isp my router stats where snr 13 and attenuation of 50
      with sky they are as below is there any way of increasing the snr without a drop in speed

      How are you connected to the line, have you tried changing filters, anything else on the line or any additional sockets?

      changed filters
      brought a 10 metre network cable instead off rj11 changed to adsl nation faceplate
      no extentions just one bt socket
      unpluged sky

      Different routers report the attenuation differently, but I would not have thought you should see so much difference. Do you have your old router to plug in and check what it shows now? There is a chance that something has happened to your line during the change over. If you were getting a lower speed with your old ISP, say 1mb, that could account for the high noise figure you had.

      i was on a fixed speed of two and half meg with aol dont know if that would be it
      i have got my old router but will it work with sky it is netgear 834g

      It would work with Sky if you put in the Username and Password from your Sky router*. But really it does not need to connect to get the Attenuation, it just has to sync with the exchange, it should do this as it stands.

      *I have to say this is against the T & Cs, but can be done

      i will give it a try after
      i wish i could get my username and passwor from the new sagam router
      do you think being on fixed speed before would be the answer
      sky have capped me to 3 meg because of my long line
