There is hope! After reading with extreme interest everything that has been said on these forums and others, I decided to bite the bullet and order SkyBB (mainly on cost issues)
Here's my story...
I've been on NTL 4Mb for years (well 2Mb and 1Mb before that
) and recently have been finding that they are becoming out of place with other ISP's on price. Yes, i've had a couple of their half price for 3 months offers, but i want something permanantly cheaper.
Last Thursday, 14th September I recieved my URN email from Sky, so promptly called them to order. I waited around 10 mins for an answer then a really helpful lady took my order. I paid my connection fee and happily carried on my day. Called them on Sunday 17th to see if an activation date had been set, yes and it's for Monday 25th September. So far so good I thought.
Monday 18th, I recieve the 1st of 2 letters from Sky, with the second arriving on Tuesday. Router also arrived Tuesday (yesterday) so I thought 'what the hell' and plugged it in all ready for next monday.
I come home from work today, low and behold my internet light is on!! Been having a play around with it for an hour or so and it's all working just as I thought!
I guess the moral of my story is, Sky CAN do things by the book (and even do it quicker than they predict!)
I'd recomend SkyBB to anyone now!
BTW, these are my line stats at the moment, I'm a little concerned about the Noise Margin, what do you guys think??
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5792 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 5.3 db 19.0 db
Cheers,
Ian

Your line attenuation is high so I'd guess you're some way from the exchange?
Your downstream noise margin is right at the limit. Unless you're lucky this will drop further through the evening and you'll lose your connection. The noise margin will start to improve again late tonight.
When your connection drops reboot the router and it will resync at a slightly lower speed. You may have to do this more than once through the evening - basically I'd suggest rebooting when you see the margin drop below 6.6 or so.
The router should stay resynced (at least mine does) at this lower speed and you'll get no dropout tomorrow - provided you leave the router powered up.
Good luck.
