      Another connection thread.. Sorry

      Hello,

Recently moved to a new build and Sky was my only option as Virgin Media didnt cable the area, damn it!

Anyway just had Sky Max all activated today and decided to do a connection test at speedtest.net... Results are poor!

This is meant to be UPTO 16Mb not 29 times reduction! I would have been happy with like 2meg upto 4meg but just over half a meg seems odd!

      Router stats are as follows

      Connection Speed
      Downstream 640 kbps
      Upstream 416 kbps

      Line Attenuation
      Downstream 57.0 db
      Upstream 31.5 db

      Noise Margin
      Downstream 8.6 db
      Upstream 8.0 db

      Any help would be great!

      Thanks

You say it is a new build, is it wired with telephone sockets in several rooms.?

2 in total, have tested both sockets and the socket behind the master socket and same thing!

      May try a different filter?

Right, when you are pluged into the test socket, just check that the other socket does not work, with the test socket exposed all other sockets should be dead (no dial tone).
You can try a differant filter just to cover all the bases.

      Hey,

      Results so far...

Changed the Microfilter and plugged into main socket and over 3500kbps so I think problem is sorted!

Plugged into the secondary socket and again over 3500 kbps! However I then plugged my phone and my Sky TV back into the sockets and its down to 550 again... So I unplug all the other devices TV & Phone and its still at 550 in both sockets

Not quite sure what caused the sudden spike but something is up!

      Re: Another connection thread.. Sorry

This was my setup and prefered method!

Telephone on Master Socket straight into socket (no filter).
Router into Secondary Socket straight into filter and Sky TV box into phone port on filter (filtered).

This setup gives that 0.6 meg connection

At the moment I have the router plugged into the main socket with a filter on its own and its at over 3 meg all the time nothing else is plugged in anywhere!

      This is just crazy!

You need filters on everything pluged into the phone sockets, sky box, phone. everything

      Hey

That appears to have solved the problem.... Didnt have a filter for the phone on the master socket and only filtered the socket the router was plugged into with Sky TV box!

Thank you for your help it was most helpful!

Jolly Good, now just one more thing. At the master socket, remove the ring wire (the one that connects to "3" on the removeable faceplate) it should be orange with white bands. This can help with line stabilty/speed.
