      Question and now its going!!!!!

God damn it!!!! - newbie speak.

i have been with Sky broadband for a couple of months now after a very bad experience with BT.

I understood that due to the distant from the exchange i would never receive an 8meg connection but should be able to get a 3 / 3.5 - which I had been receiving up to 2 weeks ago.

I have tried the usual - wired & wireless connection, changing the micro filter (not a new one though), unplugging everything apart from the router, the test socket and even ----> original comments deleted as untrue apologies!

Anyways its not just slow speed i am suffering from - the speed is all over the place - one minute its 3meg then its dropping to less than 1meg - this is getting bloody annoying.

      my stats are:
      Firmware Version 1.5Sky

      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version A2pB023c.d20e
      Modem Status Up
      DownStream Connection Speed 3776
      UpStream Connection Speed 384
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

      Wireless Port
      Name (SSID) XYZ55555
      Region Europe
      Current Channel 1
      Wireless AP enable
      Broadcast Name XYZ5555

Anyone got any ideas ? Need any more info?

      Thanks inadvance.

First thing I would do is edit your post to remove your ip, mac etc.
You are syncing at 3776 so i assume when you say your speed is all over the place I assume you mean via speedtest sites ? These can be unreliable as many factors effect the result.

So is it the "Transfer rate" while downloading that you're saying is the problem, if so, forget it. Check the stats on the router every now and again to let us know if it's a sync speed problem or not.

And... Sky staff generally aren't failures. Personally I'm a student at a Russell Group university working just to support myself: shouting at someone who you feel is inferior will never help.

      Re: and now its going!!!!!

"even yelling at some poor sod that failed at school and ended up at sky" Lets hope I don't speak to you, as I would bring you down. Some of us there have massive amounts of knowledge. Mine is Network management, comms and pc support, so I know my way around a PC and a network (be it lan on wan)

Sites do transfers at various rates, I have a steady 8 meg connection. One download site (not illegal) I tend to get around 1 meg, and adobe get around 4 meg.

Just depends on the site you download from. If it's torrents you are doing depend on the other person up load speed and the amount of people seeding.

Do you have other programs using the bandwidth ?

      Re: and now its going!!!!!

ok firstly let me clear up up a point on my first post -- would appear that i did not read / take notice of who was posting - I made a false assumption that the people on this forum hated Sky. So to clear this matter up I didn't yell at any member of staff this was only said to get some fast sympathy / help -- and maybe to show my frustration. Please accept my apologies. I have amended my original post.

Ok yes I understand what you are saying about downloading from sites, no I don't download rom torrents or file sharing sites, up to 2 weeks ago I was enjoying a much faster download speed from sites in general usually getting 400K now this speed is all over the place - usually connects to a site at 380K then drops to less than 150K - I use a program called getright so I can see actual speeds.

Like I said 2 weeks ago o the same sites I was getting over 400K surly it wouldn't change by so much all of the times and on all of the sites?

Again apologies for my stupid comments.

      Regards

Is the wii off, this may effect the bandwidth. Could you post your stats, attenuations, snrs etc, as this would help a lot.

When the connection speed drops t check the speeds from the router settings page then.

you could also see if there are any new networks when searching for wireless, it may be that someone new is using the same channel, you could try changing the channel and see if that helps
