      Connection Drop-outs

      Hi all,

First post after browsing for a while!

Below are my specs from my router, I have been experiencing connection problems just curious if there is anything in there that would suggest why?

Secondly I am on the mid package, thinking about the max, would it be worth it or am I best to stick with what I have?

Thanks all, here are the router stats.

PS meant to add, last night I started using the OPEN DNS servers to try and improve the drop outs, not yet had enough time to see any difference.

      Re: Connection Drop-outs

Hi and wlcome to the forum,

your stats do not look to bad, but you do have a few errors. These may be caused by using an extention, could you confirm where you plug the router in (master socket / test socket / extention) and also if you are wired or wireless.

with your attenuation you may not see any extra download speed but your upload will go up (from 384 ant the moment to 764) and you will also be under the FUP for downloading where now on the mid package it is 40gig (but sky do not seem to moniter this at the moment)

      Re: Connection Drop-outs

Hi there, thanks for the quick reply.

The router is plugged via a short extension about 2m into the normal bt socket, in that I have my phone and nothing else. (thinking about it the extension may only be the one supplied with the router)

Those results are from a wired pc but I also have one other pc that is on wireless.

One other thing, not sure if related is that on the speed test site my ping time is far bigger than anyone else's I see, is it bad or normal?

      Thanks again.

      Re: Connection Drop-outs

I take it that your router is not plugged directly into the socket and that you are using an adsl filter?

      Re: Connection Drop-outs

Not at the minute, the reason being is that I was with virgin cable for broadband only (long story due to BT not sky) and unplugged it then, just have never bothered plugging it back in.

      Thanks.

Well, something has gone very wrong my speed is varying between 1 and 2.5 meg, this has only happened in the last couple of hours. I have not messed with anything on my system or router so I have no idea what has happened.

Here are the stats ( I know it has not been running long but this was to try and rectify the speed)

      Re: Connection Drop-outs

Did you phone Sky before this happened? You look as if you are heavily capped, in fact it looks more like a Base connection, rather than MID. I think you will have to phone Sky and ask them what has happened, as this is not normal - SNR (dB): 32.4 13.0. This can happen with a Connect connection on ADSLMax, but it should not if you are LLUd.

      Smile Re: Connection Drop-outs

Hi, i'm very new to this broadband thing and i don't know if this is the right thread to post my problem but i have quite a similar thing going on here. I have my desktop connected to a wireless router and my router to my bayantel modem, while my laptop is connected wireless to the router. My connection keeps dropping the minute my desktop and laptop are connected at the same time. It seems like it doesn't want to share the connection and that only one computer can use the internet.

Right now i am using my laptop and everything is okay but i cannot turn on the desktop. I don't know if this is a sky problem or i have not configured something correctly. Prior to buying a wireless router, i've already had connection drop out problems. A technician came and changed my router. Please help me.
