      Hi Iain.
At the risk of causing you more irritation, while you are waiting for the new router, have a good go over your incoming line. Take off the master and check the connections to A and B and the connections in any joint boxes there may be. I don't think you will find anything wrong, but at least you will know all is o.k.

Personally I would just call back and if the ticket is still open you can be put straight back to CST to get it sorted. Not all T1 are useless by the way

Re: Low Sync, Slow Speeds, Router or Line?

Brian, check as much as I am capable of checking and everything looks fine. Cant find any joint boxes, in fact I am not sure where the incoming cable is in the house, I know all the phone cables in the estate here are underground and I am assuming the incoming cable enters near the front of the house. I dont think my wife would be to pleased if I started ripping up the carpet and floorboards though

Paul, during one of my numerous calls to Sky yesterday I was told that the ticket had been closed when the confirmation of the new router being send out had been approved. CST tole me they cant open a new ticket until until the replacement router has arrived and I've plugged it in to test. And yes not all first line are useless The young lady I spoke to at 11pm last night was very polite, helpful and cheerful which put me in a better frame of mind that the other three persons I spoke to previously. Looks like the new router is still in processing, oh well more waiting.

Anyone got any spare bandwidth they can lend me for a few days??

      Cheers

just a thought - your profile says you're on Connect. is this right? if so, Sky can't cap that so either BT have done so due to a line fault (even if you don't know about it) or they've put the wrong product on the line...

if you are on connect, try THIS speed test and see what 1. your sync speed is and 2. what your line profile is...

Re: Low Sync, Slow Speeds, Router or Line?

Sorry I havent updated my profile on here yet (will do that now). I was moved from Connect to Mid about two or three weeks ago, which is when all the trouble with line sync started. Got a letter telling me about the move a week after it was done. It was only last weekend that it took me nearly an hour to get a stable connection what I reported the issue to Sky.

As a side note, just got confirmation that the new router is on its way. What with the way the mail is, it will propbably be late next week before it arrives.

      Cheers

Re: Low Sync, Slow Speeds, Router or Line?

Just a quick update. New router arrived, Sagem one his time. Connected up to the one and only socket in the house and getting 128kbps up and down. So back on the phone to Sky. Twice tonight as they done seem to be able to put me through the the customer solutions team. Been told to phone back again in a bit and they should be able to put me through then as the new shift will be on.

      EDIT:
OK last updated. Spoke again to tier 1 support and the in turn spoke to CST and now my down is about 3Mbps and up is roughly 400kbps. How come this couldnt have been done last week if all it took was some fiddling with settings at Sky's end???

Re: Low Sync, Slow Speeds, Router or Line?

Whoever it was in CST who you talked to would've brought the speed configuration down to baseline settings (ie 128/128kbps) in an attempt to remove errors from your line to stabilise your intermittent connection problem, when this didn't work they sent a new router but kept the baseline cap on the line. It's a silly thing to forget to configure your line to your estimated maximum speed, but hey, "if in doubt, send one out!"

Re: Low Sync, Slow Speeds, Router or Line?

Just thought i'd explain why the master socket was not connecting, the wire you used (from the microfilter) does not work with the router (or any other normal phone i think) probably because because it uses different outputs at the end that plugs into your router, you should use an ordinary phone cable (bar a few phones, a bt cordless phone i have also uses different outputs on its cable) and this should give you the connection from the master socket!
