Question Max Download Speed Dramatic Decrease!!

      Hey all

In the last few days, my download speed has dropped dramatically to below 512kbps.

      Was downloading at usually 6000kbps - 8000kbps...but now, it's at a snail's pace!

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9861 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 26.5 db 12.6 db
Noise Margin 7.0 db 16.0 db

As you can see, I am syncing at the highest level I can get.

Any idea what could be causing it?

      Local Exchange problems? Router?

      Any help appreciated.

      Regards,

wireless would be my first thought , if you are wired i would do a test from the "Test" socket (see first link in my sig), if still no difference coule be spyware/malware on your PC using the banwidth (could also be something BBCIplayer or that sort of thing)

have you installed anything new or done any updates ?

Ain't you one of the guys who replied to one of my previous threads about why I wasn't getting my top download/sync speed when I first got MAX?

I've done all the Master Socket tests before.

Always installing software that takes my fancy.

Will check for spyware/malware with Spyware Doctor right now.

Done the Netstat test....nothing suspicious on my connection that I can see.

just read your previous post, is the speed test above wired or wireless ?

if wireless try a wired test and see if any better, if it is have a look in the wireless forum for tips on how to improve

      What speed test?

Those are my router stats...nothing to do with speed test.

That's not a test, that's what the speed is when I download a file.

You know, when you "Save Target As"

Even under 512kbps alot of the time.

What you see when you are downloading is Kilobytes per second. 512 Kbps is equivalent to about 4200 kbps, so you are not that low. It could be pressure on the server slowing it down. If you are taking about a test then that is different. What do you get from SkyUser Tester?

Note - When downloading always select the Custom install or you will end up with stuff you don't want.

So when I see 51.2 or whatever....it's around 4200 kbps?

Because 51.2 sounds very slow because that's what my old 512k connection speed was.
