      Speed issues??

      Hi all,

Have had an ongoing fault with my line for a while, and eventually had enough of it. Sky had capped my line at 12Mb, but I never saw speeds anywhere near that.

Anyway - got BT to come out and they have now sorted the line, and my connection stats from the router yesterday showed my downstream speed as 11999kbps. I give Sky a call to ask them to remove the cap, which they said they would do.

Fast-forward to this afternoon - got a voice-text message saying my BB had been sorted so I check and it was connecting at 7488kbps! Give Sky a call and he says he'll sort it and its now 9312!!!!

The current stats are as follows :-

      Connection Speed 9312kbps 576kbps
Line Attenuation 26 db 17.5 db
Noise Margin 9.5 db 13.0 db

I would have thought with these figures I should be getting more than that?

      Anyone have any thoughts???

with an SNR of that you wont get any more really so you need to try your test socket and see if your SNR goes up into the low teens...

read the 'sticky' threads in the forums, and try your connection in your test socket (see the link on my signature if unsure) and hopefully the fault can be diagnosed?

are you running off an extention by chance?...

      Re: Speed issues??

These speeds you have been quoted are avareage speeds, it does not mean that your speed will be consistantly high or low. If a speed test is carried out, a good one will take 10 minutes or so, it streams non magnetic data through your line and calculates the average speed at which this data can be sent and not the fastest.

      regards
