Post firmware v1 trying to remove cap...

      Well I'm confused...

My v1 router firmware is now v1.03.87 so I figured I'd phone up and see if my cap could be removed. A "line test" was done and I was told that the max I should get is 3Mb(!!!) and I should be happy with the 4Mb I currently get as it appears to be stable...

Totally confused now as I am 2.1km from the exchange and I have always thought I should get at least 8Mb.

This is the post I did a while back when I had connection problems, but that was when I was connecting at 9.5Mb!

Speed is not always a good thing

So whats up? Should I perhaps phone during the week?

Glad my router still works though. Despite not being informed of any firmware update and it was only me coming on here today and found it! I'm sure as I'm now well over the 12 months warranty on it I can guess who would have had to have paid to correct it if it all went wrong!

You appear to be on ADSL2+, which is not really a good thing for your line length. Although you say it is just a bit over 2 k, it is likely to be more like 4K actual length. ADSL2+ does not work too well if your attenuation is not at least in the low 30s.
I am fairly sure that you would benefit by being moved to G.DMT, which is more tolerant of line errors. It may be worthwhile asking them to change you. Maybe Saturday or NR would like to comment on this?

Re: Post firmware v1 trying to remove cap...

ADSL2+ tests have now been completed and have been made available to most exchanges, again to users within a certain proximity to it, now if your 2.1km from the exchange, this could be in a straight line, you have to remember that your line is not in a straight line and could possibly go half way around town before hitting that exchange. Your distance does not reflect the the cable length.
      Exchange Search.

Now firmware updates have been issued across the board on the sligh as people some how when they know its happening get the most amazing issues all of a sudden, people seem to play up and exaggurate issues. If you haven't had an issue then good, firmware will be updated on a regular basis when you need it

      regards
