      I am in full agreement with using an ADSL faceplate, they are the bee's knees. However if you are not too far from the master socket to your PC location, I would advise using a good quality RJ11 extension, something like THIS it will allow you to place the router where you want it. Some claim that using a long RJ11 deteriorates the signal, but provided it is good quality and not too long it will make little difference. After all, your line has come over a mile from the exchange, a few metres more will not matter.

      You have found out that the extension supplied by the Sky fitter is rubbish and should not be used for broadband. Goodness knows how many are using this extension, quite unaware that it is not fit for purpose.

      Hi Rambo

      Sorry I have no solutions for you but I wish to pick your brain if thats ok.

      I too am having the same problem with an MS Password being requested. The message I get is "The server 192.168.0.1 at DSL Router requires a username and password."

      Have you found a solution to this because its doing my head in? We can hardly browse any sites at all.

      Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      from previous threads its either a DNS issue (try using OpenDNS if not already) or knackered FW on the router...

      That sounds like a misconfiguration in your browser! Have you set your router (192.168.0.1) to be a proxy server in your browser? That would be as wrong as a whole box full of wrong things. Check your Browser's network settings. You should be set to using no proxy server.

      Use admin/sky as username/password. I'm guessing it's a phase 2 router... they have a bad habit of doing that irratically, someone told me the permanent fix for it, but I don't remember. Anybody know?

      Just to repeat myself. I am fairly sure this is a bug in the router or its firmware. It was raised some months ago and the user phoned Sky, explained it and received a replacement router. I have not been able to locate the relevant post for reference.

      Its a bug and often means that the router has no synch back to the servers and therefor has no authentication information. One suggested resolution is to return your security settings to default in your browser and see if that helps, if not you can lower the settings a notch and try again. Also try rebooting the router to see if that resolves it.
      If it keeps doing it you need to call Sky for trouble shooting as the router either is not holding stable connection to the servers or the router has a problem.

      who ever your line rental is with fone them and report the fault

      i had same problem and my line rental is with bt and i phoned customer services on 0800 022 3089 and they put me through to faults and problem sorted

      no point fiddling around yourself if you dunno what your doing because the phone wires are live and its dangerous!! but if you do know what your doing then fair enough

      If you need to call BT for a line fault and are on a BT line then simply dial 150, if you have to call from a mobile call 800800150 or 0800 800 150 from another landline.
