      Poor Speeds/Webpages Unavailable

      Hi all,

sometimes my Sky Connect connection's really great, but a lot of times I get the following:

absurdly slow torrent speeds, even with about 500 peers (and properly configured ports!)
      High latency in WoW
unable to load websites (ie. page cannot be displayed) for things like Facebook, BBC News, etc
random signouts of MSN Messenger and disconnects from IRC

The stats I've got from my router are as follows:

      System Up Time 85:13:41
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 262452 250203 0 4227 13221 02:18:56
      LAN 10M/100M 21080598 24932115 0 7231 6884 85:13:39
      WLAN 11M/54M 33184 2889 0 29 1 85:13:29

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7296 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.0 db 24.0 db
Noise Margin 5.6 db 19.0 db

Not that it makes much sense to me I'm afraid! Is there anything obvious I can check first, or should I start drafting a rather ticked-off email to Sky?

      Thanks in advance!

Connect as a refurbished BT product suffers from traffic shaping at certain times. It may be you are suffering from this. Out of interest are you connected wireless or hard wired?

      Re: Poor Speeds/Webpages Unavailable

I;m pretty sure that is just the nature of the Connect package which is actually a rebranded BT ADSLMax package.

This BT package has lots of throttles on torrents etc and can have poor performance during peak times. If you complain to sky, all they can do is pass it onto BT as the connect package is just leased from BT.

The Sky LLU products (when your exchange has been upgraded with Skys equipment) doesn't suffer from these problems.

It's Ethernet, not Wireless, thank god.

So it's just a crappy package? I'm happy to get a MAC code off them and get a proper company on the go. In fact I'll phone them tomorrow at lunchtime.

Have you not read my post???

All companies who dont have their equipment installed at your exchange will use the same BT product, so you wont see any chnages.

Were you with someone else before? Who were they? Was everything fine with them?

Samknows Broadband - Inverness Macdhui (NSIMD) exchange

Orange is the only LLU company so if you want to get off the leased BT product, then you need to join Orange.

      Re: Poor Speeds/Webpages Unavailable

Sorry, misunderstood. I wasn't with someone else at this location, but not literally 30 feet down the road at a different address I was on an Entanet reseller (Vivaciti) and it was absolutely perfect.

So that site says Entanet LLU isn't installed - I could have sworn when I had Entanet round the corner it was far better than what I have now.
