      Hi HELP!!!!!!!

Iv just migrated from Aol (3months ago) and after a shaky start my connection has plummeted. I am on their max package and i wouldn't be happy on there mid package. i was at least hoping it would be better then my old aol service.

My stats r below, let me know if you need more info. I'm rly upset with the 24/7 support but i wont get started on that here.

Well you are syncing at 9338, but only downloading at 1665.

First thing - trying using the ethernet cable connection to see if it improves.

If it does, then you have a wireless issue, so you could try changing the wireless settngs to another channel (or preferably keep a wired connection).

What router do you have btw?

ps - if it does turn out to be a wireless issue, then it;s nowt to do with teh sky 24x7 support and down to the hardware provided.

As red says, try it wired and keep it wired
Why people use a wireless connection for gaming is beyond me, but thats just my personal opinion.

Re: 16mbs only getting under 2mbs

      Hi

      Thx for the quick reply

I tried the wired connect for a short amount of time with no noticeable change. My Bt box is in a hard to use place thus wont be keeping a wired connection. My router is the new Adsl2 Netgear one I think its the dg94*** took me ages to find the model nu and now i carnt rember it Doh !!!

Whats the thing about changing channels, im really a noob pretending he knows somthing

Also wats that dos command that does a ping trace route that shouuld tell me if its hanging up on the wireless bit right?

      thx agn

dunno about the dos, but you need to log into the router at 192.168.0.1 (user 'admin', pass 'sky') and nfind the wireless settings (cant say exactly how, but it should be obvious).

When you tried the wired connection, did you switch off the wireless adapter to ensure it was actually using the wired connection and not still the wireless?

      Yep, but:

      a) the AOL router may be set to a different wireless channel where there is no interference (hence my suggestion)
      b) the AOL router may simply be better at wireless than the sky provided router.

There is a page on skyuser which tells you hwo to extract your username and password to be able to use anotehr router (ie your old one). However this would break your T&Cs with sky.

The thing to point out is that from your stats, your router is connection to the net at almost 10Mb, so the problem lies between the router and your pc.

Also a forum search for "max delays" will give details of what to do to reduce the pings.

Re: 16mbs only getting under 2mbs

Cheers guys iv heard about max delays and i need to get though to sky customer solutions (teir2+3) team and thats a big problem iv tried for over a week Interleaving is something else i wanna ask them. Oh Red I thought the sink speed was the connection between the router and the exchange at point of reboot not the download speed?
