      Connecting Wii to internet

      Hi guys

I have Broadband but alas only a wired connection at the mo, so I have bought a Wi-Fi USB connector to get me onto the 'net. I've followed all the instructions but my Wii fails to connect after the test. The signal is strong, both PC and Wii seem to be aware of the other but I can't make that final jump. I'm not to clued up on tech stuff so could do with a helping hand!

Oh, I have managed to change router channel from 6 to 1, but still nothing. Please assist a cave dweller!

      Re: Connecting Wii to internet

Ok what you need to do is when you setup wireless on Wii, get it to do a search of your wireless network, which will have a unique SSID name, when it prompts you to enter your network key, which can be found on the USB wireless adapter as well as your paperwork you get with it in order to make the connection, and then do test connection, and hopefully if all goes well it will say that there is a update available, just download! , as long as your Wii finds your wireless network, then everything will be fine, just as long as you enter the network key exactly as it says whether it is uppercase or lowercase!
I hope this helps you out???

      Re: Connecting Wii to internet

try disabling the encryption and connecting. if it works then you know its an encryption issue so try and enter the 8 digit WPA-PSK key in upper case(after re-enabling encryption) and if your still having no luck try WEP encryption. you make all these changes in your router settings page(192.168.0.1) where you can also change the wireless channel to 11 and change the SSID if you would like.

if your wii is still not connecting you could try entering your ip + dns information into the wii manually(i had to do this with my wii but with virgin and wrt54g router) and repositioning the router/wii in case there is a signal issue.

post back if you would like me to post up the info to enter in the ip + dns settings if you choose to do it manually or if you have any problems changing the encryption.

      best of luck, misfit96

      Re: Connecting Wii to internet

found this post on another post on the forum:

"Re: getting a nintendo wii to connect to the internet
Well i got mine to work today.

What i did was to set the router security to WEP (with 128 bit encryption). Then go through the internet set up on the wii and type in the long encryption key and it worked first time.Although the update it did took a while."
