Email I got from Sky regarding slow speed

As I have been saying earyler about my slow broadband 16mb speed. I decided to email sky to see what there reply would be and here is what they said.

Thank you for contacting Sky Broadband Technical Support.

After running various speed tests on your line this morning I can confirm that you are connecting at 5696 Kbps (5.6MB). According to our systems this is the maximum speed we are able to offer you. This is due to the quality of your broadband line and the distance you are away from your local exchange.

I do apologise for any inconvenience

This is not true, because I had taken out the sky box filter and pluged in the broadband micro filter in and the speeds increased. So are sky lying about the full speed????

Sky can only supply broadband at a speed your line will allow, the more interference you have the slower you will get. They can test this and give you an approximate speed you are likely to receive but this is by no means an exact figure, if your interference reduces you will get better speeds and vice versa.

You should do everything you can to reduce any line problems your end, check cables, filters etc, pluging in to the master socket is always a good idea as that will remove any other phone lines you may have in the house.

Once you do this check your router stats and if you have any improvement in stats or sync speed try to fix any problems with your existing cables.

Once you have done this, ring Sky (better to do this either very late one evening or very early in the morning as you have better chance of speaking to someone in CS) ask them to check your line isn't capped if it is ask them to review it now you have fixed a wiring issue in your house.

Once you have done this, you should be getting just about as much speed as you can get with the current equipment etc.

But to answer you question, Sky are not lying, it is not a set speed as it is dependant on different conditions that may change, they are just giving you a rough guess based on your data.

      Hope this helps.

By correctly filtering your sky box you improved "the quality of your broadband line" so their previous figures were no longer correct.

Yep improve the line or internal wiring and your speed will improve, as the situation stands you have been told correctly what the current status of your line is.

If you want to do a best case senario you need to do as I suggested earlier and plug the router directly into the master socket. This will eliminate all internal wiring and extentions. Until you do this nothing else really helps.

You will find it beneath the bottom half of you first inline socket, just remove the two screws to access it (assuming you have one)

Didn't you read the replies in your previous posts? You were told to do this and all of what you are again advised in this thread. There is not much point in asking for help if you are not going to carry out the recommendations.

sorry dude . It's not my socket it belongs to my folks, so I might just have to ask my parents on testing the test socket cause my parents would probably take a fit seeing me take the face place off lol

If you are too young, why not let your Dad into the secret? You never know he might just help you
