      When is MAX not MAX

      Hello All,

This is my first post..just got connected with Sky.

I am on the MAX service but think my connection is being capped.

8096 Downstream 768 Upstream. Never alters even if I reboot the router. Same sync speeds every time.

My line stats indicate a downstream speed of 12 to 16 Meg.

It's early days though..only got activated yesterday..but I wonder if I need to give Sky a nudge to get them to put me on the up to 16 meg MAX service. I migrated in on an 8 meg connection and it is sometimes the norm for the new ISP to continue the existing connection speed.

I would like to praise Sky for the smooth set up, the stylish router and the excellent price of ten pounds per month for unlimited downloads.

      Any help appreciated.

Your stats show that you are on G.DMT and capped at 8096kbps. If you post your router attenuation and noise margin I can advise whether your line will take ADSL2+.

Re: When is MAX not MAX

sky seem to do this a fair few times, sometimes it is because you line will not handle ADLS2+ and sometimes its just seems to be a mistake

could you post your router stats, just want to check your attenuation before i advise on if you need to phone sky

      Edit: beaten to it

Re: When is MAX not MAX

      Good post,

I too was wondering if I was capped especially as a guy from Sky said I should be getting at leat 12 megs?

I am running a Sagem F@ST2504 and it is always locked on to 8096 download.

My download attenuation is 34 dB and the Noise Margin is 8.6dB. The link to the post which explains all these figures suggests I should be getting better

I have no errors and the line works great, but if anyone with experience can let me know if I should call sky and ask for a better service I would be very grateful.....

      Many thanks....

Nathan, could you post your router stats, then do a comparison set from the "test" socket.

your noise margin is not that high at the moment, just want to see if it gets any better from the test socket

^^ looks like a nice healthy NM to me, time to get on the phone me thinks.

would wait till a bit later, about 10.30pm seems to be mentioned once or twice in the forums. you will have to get past T1 to the customer service team (CST) be polite with T1 (these are the first line support and read from a script) they may not understand most tech terms (adsl2+ or GDMT),

      Thanks for the info.

I might actually wait a few days.. maybe they will get around to sorting it out without intervention ( am I being a bit naive here LOL), and at least the upstream is faster than my previous ISP..I believe this reduces ping rates for online gaming...so its not a bad start to my Sky experience.

Re: When is MAX not MAX

      Hi Rich,

Thanks for the quick reply, not sure if I should be posting my stats somewhere else but I did connect to the master socket as requested and it raised the noise margin from 8.6dB to 10.9dB, the attentuation stayed the same (32dB) as I would have expected.

Connected to the master socket my downstream speed remained at 8096, thanks for the help, let me know if you need anything else?

      Nathan...
