      Unhappy Downgrade Firmware Please?

      Hello all,

I have not really ever had an issue with my broadband other than a slight hiccup by Sky which was resovled within days of going live.

I was browsing late last night and then my internet went off and I got the message saying my firmware was being upgraded, well since this morning I have noticed a good reduction in speed and would seem from my line stats that a worsening of the line aswell....how can this have happened from just a firmware upgrade?

My new stats...of note, I am not getting anywhere near the connected speed in terms of downloads and have tried several sources including a few linux distros from fast servers.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10590 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 37.5 db 22.5 db
Noise Margin 7.8 db 13.5 db

I came from BEISP and used to get 14Mb and when I got Sky they refused to put me any higher than 8Mb so with the threat of cancellation I got someone in Tier3 to put me on 12Mb (she refused to go higher so I compromised) and that is where I have been for almost a year until last night.

Now my speeds seem to be hit and miss and are not going above 4Mb whereas before I could pull down 10-11Mb and frankly there is no way that is my Line Attenuation I am positive it was 20db for D/s and around 12 for U/s from my conversaation with the woman from Tier3 last year.

So is there a way I can get rid of this new firmware as frankly it is since this that my stats are screwed and my line is reflecting this.

      someone please help

      cheers

The original FW is on the Sky cd that came with your router.
Just update it using the router page.

Sky User - Unofficial Help and Support for Sky Broadband and everything Sky! - How to update your Sky Netgear V1 Router with the new FW

      If that fails try this.

Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!

I think, although not sure, you can just use the FW off the CD and then update through the router. (as if you were updating it)

If I end up bricking it where would things stand, would I likely have to pay for a new one?

I am also wondering what is to stop Sky from simply re-upgrading the firmware again?

Newsreader is right, there is no need to use the recovery utility to flash back. Just use the router upgrade option in the router menu. It will still upgrade itself again later but it will prove if it is the firmware causing it rather than a coincidence.

It is highly unlikely that you would brick it. Its your call, but if it goes boobs up, ring Sky. Rumour has it they replace them if the new FW breaks it via auto download. Just don't tell them that you have done it yourself.

If you want to stop it form upgrading i think the best thing to do will be switch it off a night and reboot in the morning for the next three months :P..anyone have any better ideas

Well thanks for the prompt replies I just dont see why they could not leave things well alone, and now possibly through no fault of my own I may end up chasing them over this if worse comes to the worse.

I will give it a try.
