      Help A Newbie

I have just got sky Broadband MAX, my computer did not have a wirless card so bought a belkin N1 MIMO USB adapter.

On broadband speed tests i am getting around 5500 kbps downloads, however when i look at the wireless connection status it show connected at 54Mbps, why is this as the N1 adapter should be able to handle up to 300Mbps.

If i can change this will i get close to 16 meg speed? how do i change, i keep trying to disable the windows connection software to use the blekin software but it just keeps reverting to windows setting

      No, you're confusing several things:

Your connection to the internet is via the router and phone line. The connection from the router to the PC is (in your case) wireless. Increasing the speed of your wireless connection can't change the speed your router is connected to the internet at.

Take a little time to read through some of the forum. I'd advise starting with the first sticky in my signature and then move on to the wireless forum.

      Re: Help A Newbie

.............and it does not matter if you have an 'N' adapter capable of a theoretical speed of 300mbps, your router, if it is the 934, is only rated at 54mbps, so that is the maximum you will be able to connect to it. As has been explained, the speed between your PC and the router and the router and the exchange are completely different. The latter speed is the maximum you can connect, no matter how fast your adapter is.
