      Netgear dg934g disconnects

      Hi,

I've just switched from BT to Sky about a week ago onto the mid package.

My internet light on my router keeps going from green to flashing amber, then goes off for a while, goes back to amber then finally back to green. It does this quite often & it's very annoying. Can anyone help please? I didn't have this with BT - just slower speeds & more expensive with BT

      Thanks

      It's really frustrating.

Here's my Router Stats. My Noise Margin keeps going from around 2db to 0db to a rather long 8 figure number or so. Is this the problem anyone?

I don't know if it's coincidence, but when i'm looking at a site (as what happened on this one about 10mins ago) & i get disconnected, then i can't reload that page for ages, but i can look at others!!

Same thing happened with google earlier!

Have you tried re-booting the router fully (turn off using on/off button, count to 20 then turn back on, if it does not connect again after 2 mins log into web interface click on connection status, then disconnect, then connect) I found that I was having this problem when I first switched to sky, also with the DG934 and doing this 'fixed it'. touch wood no more disconnects yet.........as a side note I found that it was doing this only during 'peak times'

      Re: Netgear dg934g disconnects

The 8-figure number on your NM is a negative number, i.e. your NM has dropped below zero and that is not good at all. Have you checked out elsewhere on this forum to work through any potential internal wiring fault. Essentially, try connecting your router to the test socket on the Master socket and see if that NM improves any (also the attenuations). If it does then you probably have some wiring issues internally. A lot of faults appear to be internal wiring.

Failing that, a call to Sky to get them to fiddle with your settings may be in order - but leave that till last.

      Re: Netgear dg934g disconnects

I have tried the re-booting but not the disconnect/connect in network status - i'll try that thanks.

I haven't tried through the test socket since i moved to sky, but did try it when i was with BT & everything was fine then. It's only since i moved to Sky a week ago that this has hapened. Wish i could use my homehub with sky!

Also when trying to use speedtest.net it's not working properly anymore - keeps coming up at 20+ Mb when i'm no-where near close!

      Re: Netgear dg934g disconnects

The faster Sky speeds can cause an increase in line noise, I had the same problem when I moved over from BT, so its worth trying the test socket again. If things improve then its a problem in your house possibly poor extension wiring, which was the problem in my case. Sorted the wiring now all ok.

I think i better try this tomorrow then & see what happens thanks mate.

By the way i have a cordless phone next to my router. Could this interfere? I've heard about changing channels but how can you tell if something interferes?

Also will i get a better wireless signal if i move the router upstairs? My laptop & xbox360 are used in different rooms downstairs most of the time so i thought being upstairs the signal might transmit better?

      Thanks
