Been to so many peoples house recently with this problem. Not just sky users but other ISPs. My advice for you is follow the instructions to remove the ring wire from your telephone line. If your not sure how to contact your local pc expert in the area they will know or should know what to do. If you want to try it your self try this web page for instructions, its very easy to do and try.

Re: First week of sky and intermittent disconnection

Just an update to my original post on this subject, sky have emailed me

'Your line configuration was 3120Kbps. F urther tests on this connection discovered that your noise margins were quite severe. Accordingly, your line has now been reconfigured to a speed of 2560Kbps and the noise margins have improved enormously.'

Kids have been off for half term and have said its been fine (and as they are on it all day 'LOL NP WKD M8' with the rest of their school on msn) i think things may have settled down, not a great speed seeing as i'm in the city but its what i was getting with orange which cost 8 more a month and a stingy 2gb download limit.

Anyway hopefully moving soon so no doubt i'll be posting again about troubles with that

You ave not yet posted stats from the Test socket. It could be you have internal wiring faults which are bringing your noise margin down.

I will have a look, the flat is very old and i'm sure i've checked both sockets before and neither has a test socket inside, i may be wrong i'll check again. I am working away most of the time and hardly get to go home so been trying to sort it as best i could.

Re: First week of sky and intermittent disconnection

If you do not have an NTE5 master, removing the wire from terminal 3 in the sockets very often makes a big improvement. This is the ring wire which is not required with modern phones or when using filters. It acts like an aerial and picks up interference which degrades the ADSL signal.

The standard colour is orange/white, blue/white/blue being the standard phone circuit colour.

Re: First week of sky and intermittent disconnection

just disconnect orange/white yeah - thanks i will try

If it is that that is interfering what happens?, i mean sky seem to have said they have limited my connection to match the performance of the line, if i then make the adjustment and it improves it will that be automatically upping my connection or not
