      Not as fast as promised

Admin note: new thread split off from router stats explained

I was told by Sky sales that I could get speed up to 16mb. When my router was showing 4096k, I phoned back and they confirmed I could only get 5mb. Nice eh?

One other thing - I have a very old master socket, looks war time! It has a huge power cable going into it and what looks like 2 old fuses. There is then a cable coming out of this into a newer (90's?) BT socket.

Should I replace all of this with a new master - and if so could it improve my connection?

      Thanks in advance

      Steve.

Re: Sky router stats (speed, noise, attenuation) explained

      Hi Steve.
Yes it is prob past it's best (it is an old GPO connection unit, the number of which I cannot remember).
Try and get a NTE-5 master fitted directly to the incomming line and take it from there.

Could you post your router stats (just want to see what your attenuation is)

Not much wrong there. Check out your wiring and get a NTE5 master fitted and you might see a slight improvment

With that line att there was no way you were going to get any where near 16meg. You have got what they promised tho and that is upto 16 meg. I dont agree that the service should be marketed this way but theres not much we can do about it. If the increase upload and the unlimited download are not important to you the mid package would save you 5/month.

He could have said 'up to 5 meg' though - but that's salesmen for you!
