      Changing telephone number

If my telephone number was to change, would it have any effect on my Sky broadband?

Just a number change, no move of house.

      Any downtime or complications?

      Re: Changing telephone number

No, other than having to let sky know your new number. (I'm thinking here of admin purposes, not anything technical) then it will make no differance.

      Re: Changing telephone number

cease of existing service (2 weeks max), provision of new service (2 weeks max)...

any change to a line will cease all services on said line - even if it doesn't get unjumpered initially there is a very strong chance in downtime...

      IANTE.
You would be right for a change of exchange, but in this case there is no change to the line, just a number change.

      Re: Changing telephone number

      not with Sky's system...

chordiant can only have one service per account at any one time, so one'll have to be cancelled down before another one can be put through. now, it might go through as if it's a migration to keep downtime to a minimum but it might also got belly up and take a good month...

more hassle then it's worth IMO...

      Re: Changing telephone number

Here is sky's reply to my question.........

      >>>Thank you for contacting Sky Broadband.
In response to your recent communication, please allow me this opportunity to clarify matters.
I can confirm that should you change your telephone number we will be required to cancel the broadband service on your old number and re-provide our service on your new telephone number.
Please note following timeframe apply, when you have notified us that your changing your telephone number we will place a cease on your line this normally takes up to 10-15 working days and we will then re-provide on your new telephone line in which this will also take up to 10-15 working days.
If you need further help or information, please reply to this email or contact us on 08442 41 05 15.
      Kind regards

      Sky Broadband Customer Services <<<<<<<<

So the way I read it, it could take up to 30 days without broadband as a worst scenario, just for a change of number.

      This is laughable in 2008!

God help me if I ever decided to move house.

      Re: Changing telephone number

I am going to stick up for iante this time he was very right in syaing what he said as if you change your phone number it removes the tags on ther line and no tags no broadband and the only way to get them back is to be re-provisioned with new ones.

      Re: Changing telephone number

This is very silly. Hope sky get their act together on this. Telephone numbers are oftern changed (If someone gets malicious calls) that sort of thing.

I think with Sky this is easier than just changing the number.
