Angry speed went down without sky emailing first

I am on sky broadband base and have gone over the 2gb limit by 80-100mb. Next day i noticed that my speed went down from 2048kbps to 1472kbps and it hasn't gone back up ever since. I also haven't been over the limit for 2 months now and still no indication that it will go back up. Can sky do this without telling you first?

I very much doubt if Sky would bother about a Base user going a few hundred Mbs over their allowance. It is more likely to be a fault in your connection.

      ^^^^^^
Did you read the post? The OP is worried about having his speed reduced because he went a few mbs over his 2 gb allowance. It has nothing to do with capping, but he probably is, being on a 2mb download.

Re: speed went down without sky emailing first

Here are my stats from the router conntected to the extension socket

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1472 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 54.0 db 30.0 db
Noise Margin 9.8 db 13.0 db

      Hope this helps

One more thing. I today connected my router to the master socket and the test socket and usually shouldn't the speed go higher becuase thier is less noise. The Stats are below:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1472 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 54.0 db 30.0 db
Noise Margin 21.8 db 14.0 db

The noise margin has got alot higher than when connection to my extension socket, what does this mean?

Re: speed went down without sky emailing first

As your sync speed has not risen it probably means that you have been capped. The higher the noise margin, the better the connection. You obviously have problems with your internal wiring which has caused your speed to be reduced. I don't work for Sky so I don't know whether this is done automatically or not, even those here that work for Sky, don't seem very sure.

You should have a look at the Cabling and faceplate section of the forum for tips on how to improve your connection. When you have done that, phone Sky and tell them your connection is slow and would like it set to the maximum available.

maybe u went over ur allowance more often

i read some were sky will not bother if u go over ur limit but if u do it frequentley they take action maybe that action was capping!
