      web browsing now abysmal

      Hi,

      Had Sky Broadband for nearly a year now and its been fantastic, full 16mb when downloading stuff, browsing really quick but now for some reason beyond me, for the last week or so browsing has dropped to almost dial up speeds.

      Ive no idea why, tried wireless on/off, done full virus scans etc and the PC seems fine.

      Can anyone possibly help, I can provide any info etc, just not sure whats needed.

      Many thanks,
      Ash

      Your stats look fine are you using wireless? if so it would be worth trying ethernet connection just to see if something is interfering with the signal.

      Re: web browsing now abysmal

      Im currently connected wired, ive had wireless turned on/off yet it seems to make no difference.

      Is there anything that could be lurking on my PC that could cause this perhaps?

      Re: web browsing now abysmal

      It possible I suppose but also possible there has been a massive increase in line errors which are slowing it down. It would be worth plugging your router into the test socket which is normaly hidden behind the face plate of your BT master socket, that will rule out any internal issues causing line errors and if you have the old white router you can use this Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.3 to extract detailed router stats which will show up any line errors. Click on "get detailed stats" it will ask for router user name and password then back page to the first screen you saw then download cfg file and open it with wordpad. Post them here and we will tell you what we think.
      It only works on the white router.

      You could also see if it is the Sky DNS servers by swapping to the Open DNS servers and see if web browsing gets any better there.

      Re: web browsing now abysmal

      when did you last turn off your router? a simple re-boot might help it as error count is VERY high...

      Total time = 1 days 1 hours 48 min 48 sec
      SF = 37763199
      CRC = 8144190
      LOS = 90
      LOF = 0
      ES = 131242

      also, how are you set up? master socket?
