Connection Back in Dark Days of Dial Up!

      Hi All

I have been having problems with a slow connection for about 2 months. In that time I have had 3 Sagem routers sent out to me ( All sent to me by CST), none of which will sync with my exchange at more than 512kbps. But recently my connection speed has dropped to just 128kbps both upstream and downstream.
It doesn't make any difference being connected via ethernet cable.

All along Sky have said I should be getting around 2.5mb!
As requested by them I have done all the usual rebooting, changing filters, testing from test socket etc. There are no extensions connected to my master socket (Never have been) In all I have tried 3 Sagem routers and my original white Netgear.

CST have raised a ticket and have now escalated my case onto BT.
Haven't heard anything back yet (10 days so far)
      Current router stats below.

      System Up Time: 0:41:12
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 4265 4434 0 0 0 0:40:03
      LAN 195 0 0 0 0 0:41:12
      WLAN 5945 5676 0 0 0 0:40:50
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 128 kbps 128 kbps
Line Attenuation 56.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 6.4 db 14.0 db

that's Sky test speed BUT your SNR is awful - is this in your test socket or an extention? as with that attenuation you should be getting 3-4Mbps with a good line...

It doesn't seem to make any difference from the test socket!
The stats I just posted are from the master socket with an ADSL faceplate on the front.

Do you think BT will find the fault? I can barely surf at the current speed!

My connection speed has over the last 2 months got worse (from 512kbps to 128kbps) Long time since I had over 2mb.

speed wont increase (your capped on test speed) but its the SNR thats important...

put it in the test socket and if it shoots up into the teens then the line can go hight but only when you replace your faceplate...

give it a go and post up stats again...

no, which would suggest you have a line issue outside your control...might need Sky to get BT involved...

Re: Connection Back in Dark Days of Dial Up!

CST have indeed escalated my case to BT. Been waiting 10 days and have heard nothing yet

Do you think there could be too much noise on the line? I have done the quiet line test, it sounds quiet to me.

Re: Connection Back in Dark Days of Dial Up!

it could be a faulty joint somewhere on the line, possibly a faulty port on the exchange equipment so hopefully something will be found soon...

Re: Connection Back in Dark Days of Dial Up!

If it's been over 10 days and you have not heard from the BT team then this suggests that the case has not been moved to the correct team. CST may (for some reason) have logged it to BT but not with the internal BT team.
I'd chase it up if I were you. you should be hearing back from the BT team within 48hrs once your case is moved to them.
