I'm sure one of the guys on here can tell you what speeds you should expect from your router stats. Line attenuation and noise margin etc. They are usually right.

      Re: Just Joined Sky Broadband

just been onto sky they say bt advised them that the highest speed available on my line was 2 or 2.5 meg

they put me on 8meg on this advice but girl i spoke to got an engineer to check my line and he said it was handling speeds in excess of 2meg various speed test come back with 3meg slowest and 7.5 meg highest

they recommend contacting bt to confirm if line can handle more but they are happy that line is very stable at 8meg

      Re: Just Joined Sky Broadband

As people stated here before. The BT max your line can hold is often under-quoted by BT.
My line was quoted by BT as 2megs max. I now have the full 16megs from SKY.

      Try calling them again.....

      Nodrog:

I was told from the start I had an usually good line. From what the guys here could see...I had a line (if fault free) could hold 16-22megs (if SKY ever offered up to 22megs LOL).

I got 8160kbps the first day. I knew it needed amended by SKY. In my case I got help quickly. Don't be tempted to waffle on about line attenuation, SNR or G.DMT or ADSL2+ to Tier 1...it's not really their fortay. They fix more common problems.

It's getting through them to get to what once was Tier 2 & 3...now CST.
If you ask for a ticket....just play dumb. The more jargon you say...the more they think you are trying to be a know it all.

Look out for the THREAD on 'Tier 3' in this forum. It has guides on how to approach Tier 1...and how to try to get through to CST...in a savvy way.
I dont think SKY techies in CST get the emails for SKY Broadband help. I tried. i didn't even get an answer.

I used to be with AOL...and you got ASIA for (script readers) and Ireland for cancellations. At least SKY has some sort of more accessable technical help. And better communications compared to A.O.Hell.

      Re: Just Joined Sky Broadband

received reply email from cst early hours of this morning it states speeds are dependant on distance from exchange and for the first ten days connection will be in test mode

they didnt get the point that iam not on an adsl2+ connection as my router stats show 8160 download connection nothing to do with actual speed recieved, they went on about two pc's slowing down surfing, i know all this but i want 16000kbps not 8160kbps

      keep on at them

the first ten days connection will be in test mode
This either a new procedure or an outright lie. The 10 days training is only used on Connect. Mid/Max should sync immediately to the best speed it can negotiate.
