      Smile 16 Meg My Eye!

I have been signed up with Sky broadband since the very start. I have never seen this misterous 16 meg they speak of despite me living 1.6 miles from the exchange and running the wires from my test socket.

For a while I was seeing 9 meg which I couldn't argue with compared to some poor souls I have read about on this site. But recently (about 3 months ago) the service dropped to about 3 megs.

To be fair I haven't chased this up, (though I don't see why I should have to start phoning/emailling people about it!) but I am still happy with the speeds of my webpage uploads etc so no worries.

Why am I paying for 16meg?

I want to phone sky and say downgrade my package to 8 meg to save some money but:

Will they mess about with the speeds again and am I likely to see dial-up speeds as a result? Or will I contine to see the same 3 meg speeds I get now?

Many thanks for your answers and (when is this new firmware coming out? it's only been years since we got these crappy netgears?!

without looking at your stats, it would be hard to say anything about your speed, could you post your detailed stats.

as to the package you are on, if you do not need the higher upload speed or FUP downloads, then yes i would suggest you get the to change your package

as to what speeds you may get on the new package, we would need to see your stats

      Re: 16 Meg My Eye!

Currently, I am guessing you are on the MAX package. This will mean ADSL2+ up to 16Mb. As you are only receiving 9Mb, I am guessing there might be some line faults or what not. When/If you downgrade to CONNECT or MID package to the up to 8Mb, Sky will go back to their ADSL MAX service, this is different to the MAX package's technology. So you might have seen 9Mb on your MAX package, that will not mean you will get the 8Mb on MID or CONNECT.

Hope you understood that. Best post some router stats to confirm.

      Ok pings. (24/05/08)

only Connect is on ADSL Max - all others are LLU so whereas Max uses ADSL2+, Base & Mid use G-DMT...
