The filter is plugged in there, its one with a sort of fly lead on then a box!

So I buy the faceplate disconnect the four wires and reconnect the two blue/white and white/blue ones.
I dont want to reposition the router in the cellar as I think it may affect the kids connections in their bedrooms.
On the stats I posted earlier the test socket ones are taken with the modem connect via a 15m flat (RJ11) extension reel cable pluged directly into the modem.(New)
Are they accetable if so I would prefer to stick with this to save on cash.
Unless there is a 'cheap' alternative.
The distance from router to master socket is about 7m.
      Thanks all

      Re: Connection dropping

Moving the router close to the master and having a short lead is a good idea, but not everyone can or wants to do this, so stick with your extension lead and see how you go.

      Re: Connection dropping

see the second link in my sig and look for the mognuts utility,
i'm not sure the detailed stats will show much at the mo (because of all the switching around you have done, testing from the different sockets), but you could post them now and again tomorrow

      Edit: here it is
      Mognut’s Utility
Go to the utility web site: Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4.
Click the “Get” detailed modem stats button and click “OK”.
Enter the router login user name and password.
At the next screen, click the back button on your browser.
      Click the “Download” netgear.cfg button.
What you do next depends on your operating system. On Windows XP, click the “Save” button to save the file to your hard disk. (If you click “Open”, you may find that the file association is one that doesn’t handle carriage returns the same way as the router, hence the reason for saying “Save”.)
Open the file in WordPad (not notepad).
