      Cant get sky max

      Hi

I have just moved house to Arborfield in Reading, i called sky to get my Max BB changed over but have been told that the only option i have is the connect package @ 17 a month. I am now searching around for other ISP's which could offer a better deal. I know this is a sky forum but was wondering if anyone could recomend a decent ISP? i do a lot of file sharing so would prefere a provider that does not use traffic shaping and does not have limited DL's, Virgin looks the best to me but i dont know a lot about them

      Any info would be great

      Cheers
      Danny

Debatable regarding VM services? They do traffic shape particulary later on in the day and people do not get near their advertised speeds. It may be worth looking at BE for an alternative to Sky

Have you checked your exchange to see who has been unbundled? They have been severely criticised, but my next door neighbour has had TalkTalk for several months and has not had a problem.

      Re: Cant get sky max

As no one has unbundled your exchange, the only thing available will be ADSLMax, either direct from BT or through another ISP. It looks like it is a very small exchange so it could be a long time before anyone unbundles it

Following isitme reply and looking at the BE webpage sadly that is not available to you. You may have to bite the bullet and go to BT wholesale

Most of the companys do a rebadge BT ADSLMAX product like Sky's connect package but I dont think you will get it anywhere near as cheap as Skys LLU package at 5. I would stear clear of going direct to BT though as there Option 1 base package at 17.99 after the first 6 months introductry 8.95 offer only has a 5gb download limit! at least with something like Sky connect at 17 you get 40gb download limit.

      Re: Cant get sky max

Looking at the Arborfield exchange I would say that your options are severely limited. There isn't even cable in your area according to Samknows. Koala5 hits the nail on the head quite well - Sky would appear to be the better offering, albeit across BT Wholesale's Connect product in terms of monthly allowance of 40GB. I, too, would advise staying well away from a native BT product - their deals are often inferior to other ISPs.
It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer.

      Re: Cant get sky max

cheers for the info guys, i have just been to speek to a few neighbours that i know have BB and they are all on BT, i asked if they could run a speed test @ speedtest.net and they are getting around 7.5Meg. i have made a few phone calls and checked out a few sites of different ISP's and Virgin seems the best deal on paper- upto 8Meg unlimited downloads 10 a month with free wireless router

what are your thoughts on this package?

      cheers again

      Danny
