Cool Laptop with wire looses connection

      Hi,

I've been loaned a laptop to use upstairs as I'm recovering from a major op.

Hubby purchased a LAN cable that reaches upstairs no probs and when conneted the laptop can surf the net extra. Then after a while - prob 10 mins or so - the connection drops and the only way I can get it back is to turn off the power to the router, leave for 20 secs or so, plug back in and then the laptop comes back online.

My son is using the main PC to play an online game and it's causing him grief when I have to reboot the router each time! This doesn't only happen upstairs, if I'm in the same room as the router it'll still drop.

Does anyone have any idea's as to why I can't stay online for long?

If I can't fix the wire problem is my only way around it to buy a usb wireless dongle and try and connect the laptop to my main pc or the wireless router? I'm not sure!

      Thanks in advance,

      Lisa

Try turning off UPnP in the router, it can cause this sort of problem.
