can somebody explain what this means and how to fix it!

Hi i just used sky users braodband speed tester and got this...
Your download speed is 2024Kbps. That is 2271Kbps below the average for Sky
Your upload speed is 335Kbps. That is 65Kbps below the average for Sky

this was the 3rd time i had run the test, 1st two times the uplaod speed was higher than average and the download speed was similar to what this result says.
I have no other programs running that would affect download speed or use bandwidth, i AM connected wirlelessly using the netgear router and WPN111 adapter which also constantly freezes on me, the only way i can fix this is by unplugging and replugging in the adapter, a very temporary fix
if anybody can help please do, im sorry if im repeating a common problem but i just cant find an answer
Any help is appreciated, thanks very much, Max

Have you tried changing the wireless channel in case you are conflicting with a neighbour's connection?

Wireless will almost always give an inferior download than wired. You could try different wireless channels and experiment with the router position to see if things improve.

Cheers chaps, yeah i changed to channel 6 from 11, the problem bugged me that much my pcs been left alone for a couple of months, just started using it again now, my netwo0rks been in use all the time though as other members of the family have computers connected (wearnt connected when i was doing the testing)
i cant understand why my PS3, which is in the same room, does not have signal drops etc, a wired connection isnt really possible as we live in an old cottage with stone floors etc, (the walls arent massively thick, so its not that afftecting connection)
what is an acceptable signal strength?
thanks very much for your help!
what channels are best by the way?
      thank you again

There isnt a "best" channel as such, more like which channel is least effected by external influences being the best. An alternative to wireless that has received good reports are these or similar
      PowerLine Wall-Plugged HD Ethernet Adapter - HDX101
