      30 percent of service hmmm

Installed new broadband last friday, great for couple of hours then bingo no internet went to bed, got up saturday no internet for 2 hours, since then on and off, the 2nd comp in house which has a wirless connection drops all the time. frustration

I have Max upto 16meg , download speeds @ 2-400kbs , today did a speed test upload higher than download shocking......... i got all this on a contract but told is the exchange n phone line.....Did a check exchange just under 1km aways so at least should be touching 14meg surely ??

this is less than 30% of what was told could have, anyone think theres a problem or i been ripped off ? I used to have Bulldog and had 8meg line no problems.....

any input greatly received, at this rate perhaps dial-up is way forward

are you wireless on both computers ? if so could you try a wired test.

could you also post your router stats.

      Hi
have the wirless router on main pc that sky sent in box is a Dg934g also wirless witha linksys wireless connecter on other comp both getting same speeds stats sayin on the sky router page thing is are
Downstream Connection speed is 7650kbps Upstream 764kbps
Line Attenuation is 43 db an upstream is 12.5db
Noise margin says 4bd down n upstream is 14db

Dunno wot all this means but my previouse internet was faster but with different company.

Re: 30 percent of service hmmm

you are connected at about 7.5 meg, the problems with your throughput would seem to be down to the wireless signal, you could try changing the channel on the router (when you look for wireless networks you may see alot of others, chance your channel to one as far away from them as pos)
you could also try different router positions (higher up / away from dect phone and other electrical items as these will all interfere with the signal.

also, could you confirm which socket you plug the router into ? (extention/master/test socket)

i cannot remember which figure on the upstream indicates GDMT or ADSL2+ (768 / 764) hope someone can help me with that ?

      764kbps would indicate ADSL2+

*also, could you confirm which socket you plug the router into ? (extention/master/test socket)*

Im a bit of a noob here but i think i uderstand u , the router goes into a adsl thing that goes into the bt socket on the wall, from main pc

Re the chanel things im on chanel 11 as sky told me to do that and yea i see a few other people on that channel,

Re the other comp never had probs before signal @ 98% now as jus downstairs

But this channel thing is for the wireless comp ? the main computer surely should have a great connection ? even with a 7meg connection the download speeds should be better ?

      thanks for any help

Re: 30 percent of service hmmm

On ADSL2+ with your attenuation of 43dbs, you can expect between 7-8 Mbs, so you are not too bad. Although you are only 1k from the exchange your line would seem to be a lot longer.

Do as suggested and change the channel until you find the best one. This is even more important when you can see others are using the same channel as you. There is no way Sky can tell you what is the best channel to use, they are talking rubbish. No matter how good you wireless works it will not be up to the speed of a wired connection.
