      Sky Broadband Max Advice

Problems with slow connection since moving to ADSL2....

Have just been moved onto ADSL2 from what I think was the limited 8mb service even though I have always paid for Max - before the move my line always connected at 8096 download and 376 upload and speed tests gave me about 6.9mb actual download speeds

I am only about 500 metres from the exchange and with low attenuation and noise was hoping for a connection of 14/15mb??? However my router now will only connect at a speed of 6880 every time I reset it

Are sky capping my connection speed for some reason? - should I be getting a faster connection? I wondered if I need to get sky to reset something so that the line will begin the auto-negotiation it usually does when you first connect - and give me a better connection speed?

any advice would be appreciated, thanks

      Info from router below:-

      Downstream Upstream

      Data Rate(Kbps) 6880 768

      Noise margin (dB) 14.7 13.0

      Attenuation (dB) 15.0 11.5

(have reset at different times of day and always connects at 6880 and 768)

Certainly looks like you are capped at 6880 downstream and also I think still on G.DMT and not ADSL2+. Your noise margin looks healthy enough so unless there is something seriously wrong with your internal wiring you need to be speaking to Sky to get the cap lifted.

      Re: Sky Broadband Max Advice

I requested to be moved to ADSL2+ yesterday and its since then the connection dropped from 8096 to 6880 - the upload speed increasing to 768 led me to believe they have moved me onto ADSL2+?

Could it be a matter of waiting to see if the connection speed increases?

Anyone know of any direct numbers for tier 3 support at sky?

Not 100% sure but I think 768 upload is G.DMT Max figure, and ADSL2+ usually uploads at 764 on Max. That's why I think you are capped at 6880 on G.DMT.

      two words...

      AUTO REGRADE

if u ever wanna go up in speed - you HAVE to speak to someone...emailing in or leaving it with a ticket will result in capping
