    DELL PC not recognising Modem

      Unhappy DELL PC not recognising Modem

      Trying to get connected to Sky Broadband is driving me round the twist. I have never previously had any type of broadband and used my BT line to dial-up to BT on pay-as-you go. I now how a Sky wireless router and have completed the set up process using the ethernet cable to my DELL pc. All the lights in the top section of the router, light up as specified but the top light on the bottom section is showing as amber and not green as it should do. After being on the telephone to Sky for over 3 hours they have now suggested that it is my DELL pc that is at fault as it is not recognising the router and that I may have to contact DELL....for what they couldnt say. They are in the interim sending out another Router just in case the router may be faulty but I suspect that when I connect the new router the same problem will still exist.

      Anybody have any suggestions?

      its nothing to do with the router or PC - the internet '@' light is amber as it doesn't have an IP address so no wonder you can't browse...it's more than likely an issue regarding line profile so you really need to have a word with CST (the level beyond tier 1 support) and hopefully someone there'll recognise the issue...

      Can you confirm your router type? Your profile says the old type, but if you have just joined, this is unlikely.

      I suspect the amber LED is for the port the PC is connected to. Does it go out when the PC is disconnected? If so how old is the PC as it is possibly only connecting at 10meg.

      sounds to me he has the router with power light at the bottom, which would mean the amber light is the @ light - need the OP to reply really...
