Right...AOL says the internet was stopped today.
The AOL BB marker will not removed by BT until 12th March.
AOL seem to think I can call SKY now to order SKY to start after the 12th.

So that for example waiting for the SKY user password letter and router would take on average 15days.

But until the marker is removed 12th...I don't think I can order it.

What do you SKY guys think?

That is correct. You cannot order Sky Broadband until the BB marker has been removed by BT.

If you try to order Sky before the 12th March, Sky's system will keep informing them that you are with AOL.

If your AOL BB has been already switched off, I think BT has a telephone no, which you can contact and ask for the markers to be removed earlier. Cannot remember the telephone no though. Maybe someone else knows it.

If someone has the phone number for BT that would help me remove the marker earlier. I'd be very grateful. The AOL is off now. But the marker is there for another 8days.

What you have experienced is very much against the Ofcom regulations. ISP are specifically forbidden from cancelling the service of anyone who requests a MAC. It may be worth pursuing as you may have a case for compensation.

You will find the number you require in this Ofcom answer-
My new ISP says there is a Tag/Marker/ Incompatiable product /ISP already on my line | Ofcom

Re: Asked for a MAC....got cancelled instead!!!

BT Wholesale say that the AOL is not off today and won't be until 12th. But there is a chance I will loose that AOL b4 the 12th.

I'm not entitled to order a new provider until 13th March.
I may not have sped the process up.
But it's nice to hear it all confirmed by BT Wholesale.

      It's just a waiting game.

As for the referance to going thru Ofcom and taking them for everything LOL....I'm sure I do have a good case. But I can't remember the name of the person I talked to that cancelled me. Cos I cant prnounce his name. I know the time...day...and which call centre.

But that's it. It's not like BT where you can ask for a Rep's ID number.

Thank you those people that have helped me on this thread. Nice to know some people find this a bit annoying like me.

Trying to keep a positive head on.

      Exactly so
The only reason we now SHOULD get PAC and MAC codes easily is
      because of OFCOM.
While OFCOM do not take on individual complaints, the consumer
registered complaints and outcry, helped in getting the new
      systems in place.
The ISPs should be made to comply on supplying MAC codes.

In the last month I moved my mobile number from Orange to Virgin.
It went smoothly and easily and took about a week.
A couple of years ago it would have been a nightmare.
It was in the suppliers interest to be as difficult as possible.

Hopefully it will soon be as easy for Broadband, but BT
take their time to clear markers off the line.
My experience 18 months ago was that there was no way to get BT
      to move quickly.

If its removed on the 12th, you most likely can't order till the 13th with Sky, and it'll take around 8 working days from then.
I am not posting officially on behalf of Sky. I am posting individual thoughts and advice.

Re: Asked for a MAC....got cancelled instead!!!

Here's a laugh. AOL said they cancelled by Direct Debit. There word is as much use as a chocolate teapot.

I rang my bank to cancel the Direct debit from their end.
So I asked AOL's online help...has it been cancelled?
"Yes. But 14.99 came out of your account 01/03/08."
I asked why since my MAC request was on 27/02/08 (which we've now found out was cocked up and my broadband was cancelled).

Which means if they cancelled me 27/02/08. Why did they even ATTEMPT to remove my 14.99?

According to AOL's Online Live Help. I am supposed to be credited the 14.99 within 21 days. I hope so.

Aol's payement is for each month in advance. So I'd already paid for 01/02/08 to 31/02/08.

With all these computer based CServices can they not link up the damn machines on a network? LOL

Wht does each person you get passed to need your details AGAIN? Ringing New Delhi takes 3minutes to establish your POSTCODE phonetically.

Re: Asked for a MAC....got cancelled instead!!!

I had a good laugh at that.

AOL requires my 14.99 on 1st. It doesn't come out til 6th...according to older bank details.

So tommorrow is the day they'd have done it.
So I'll wait patiently by my online account to see if it comes out.
Even though AOL said it had been removed already. Well it hasn't registered in my bank yet.

So how the hell they are going to re-emburse 14.99 to my account in 21days when the money isn't even out yet.

Counting down the days to siging up to SKY. 6 to go!!! Yee-haa!
