Can i use my netgear dg834gt??

      hi all

just wanted to know if i could use my netgear dg834gt instead of the supllied router that sky sent out as the 834gt is 108mbps and also has a usb adapter which would allow me to go wireless around the home and stop killing my onboard network card!! which is damaging my computers performance.

how would i go about installing this router
what would i need to do eg setup configuration

      kindest regards dale

The router that Sky supply is wireless as well. If you use your own router you are breaking Sky's terms and conditions and if they find you out you could have your connection disconnected.

Having said that they are a good few people on here that do use their own routers. To see how it is done you take a trip to the Router Forum on here.

Re: Can i use my netgear dg834gt??

You might be interested to know that the DG834GT is the original model supplied by Sky and has variously been described as 'crappy' 'sh***y' 'useless' 'junk' and many other derogatory terms, none of which do I subscribe. It is just interesting to read of someone who actually wants to use one

and stop killing my onboard network card!!which is damaging my computers performance.
I don't quite know what you mean by this, if it is doing that, then there is something wrong with it, so you should re-install it or replace it. Maybe you should explain how it is damaging your PCs performance.

As has been pointed out the Sky router is wireless, so there is nothing to stop you using your Netgear USB adapter with it.
