Sudden Loss Of Connection - Hair Pulled Out.....

Hello to all on this excellent site/forum

I hate to say it but, my usually reliabe Sky Max Connection, which I've had since November 2007, has suddenly & drastically deteriorated during the past three weeks
(Note - no changes to PC's or Telephone setup, the drop-off just began without warning, I had been enjoying excellent speeds, 14MB Down & 600K Up)

I started experiencing intermittent connection loss every few hours, during the second week of February, which I tolerated at first

This escalated during the third week of Feb to a connection loss every hour and then to a state where the Router wouldn't stay connected for more than 2 minutes!

It was at this point I decided to Bite-The-Bullet & ring Technical Support

After spending seemingly endless hours on the phone to Tech Support

I'm now on my second Router, (Black Netgear, Phase 2 DG934G), connected via the Test Socket using my third Micro-Filter and I'm still experiencing a cut-off every 40 mins, (for some strange reason - it really is every 40-45 mins, I've timed it.... & if I don't soft-reboot the Router, it takes another 40 mins to reconnect)

Tech Support tried various things - speed capping etc, all to no avail

I've even connected the Router directly to the Test Socket for 4 hours with no other equipment attached, (PC, phone etc), & it still loses the connection...

Both PC's are connected via Ethernet Cables & my LAN connection between them works flawlessly

      What else can I try?

      Am I doing anything wrong?

My patience & hairline is wearing very, very thin

If you are certain nothing has changed in your internal set up and you have tried a new router, that only leaves your external connection to the exchange. You can only ask Sky to ask BT to check your line. Asking them yourself may cost you.

I don't know if the mods will appreciated your 'attention grabbing' graphics. Many forms would bar you for using such large graphics in a post. Remember everyone does not have your high speed connection.

Re: Sudden Loss Of Connection - Hair Pulled Out.....

      Update #1

I don't know if this throws any light on my problem, but

I've just managed to catch the Router Stats during one of my regular disconnection periods......

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 0 0 0 0 0 00:00:00
      LAN 100M/Full 282019 246192 0 54623 28811 01:04:29
      WLAN 11M/54M 0 0 0 0 0 00:00:00

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 0 kbps 0 kbps
Line Attenuation 30 db 8 db
Noise Margin 2147483646 db 17 db

Note the Downstream Noise Margin.... 2147483646 db.......
      (not a typo error)

Is this a normal statistic during a loss of connection?

      What is happening?

      Any help/suggestions appreciated

      Regards

Your noise margin has gone down to a Negative figure, this is the way it is displayed. I can only repeat what I said above, phone Sky and ask them to get BT to check your line for faults. Unfortunately you are in a position where neither Sky or yourself can do anything, only BT have a chance of fixing it.

thing is tho, Sky will log a fault to BT ONLY if the line keeps dropping or is really slow...showing a sync of 13Mbps is going to be hard to convince tier 1

This is a bit of a long shot. Have a look at the back of your master and check that the connections to A and B are secure. I don't think for one second you will find anything wrong, but you never know!

Re: Sudden Loss Of Connection - Hair Pulled Out.....

I've been having the same problems. I'm on mid and has always synced at maximum speed but now Router keeps disconnecting and when I reboot I sync at 4800. My noise margin has gone from a solid 14.0 and att 13 (live less than a mile from the exchange) to a noise morgin of 6-7 and an attenuation of 33. Now assuming my house hasn't blown wizard of oz style miles away from where it is usually situated why in particular has my attenuation changed?

Here's my stats, won't bother with mossywell as I've just rebooted

      Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4800 kbps 224 kbps
Line Attenuation 33.0 db 31.0 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 7.0 db

Am going to see how it plays out over the next few days, as last night was the first time i've seen this (although I hadn't accessed the internet since last week,) before I call tech support.
